5 Things iTunes 11 Still Needs

iTunes 11 is the best thing to happen to Apple's media hub in a long time. But while the cosmetic changes are nice, there are still plenty of underlying problems with iTunes that need to be addressed. At its core, iTunes is still just a shopping mall with a snazzy jukebox attached. But it could be so much more. More »

How to Use Email Marketing to Your Advantage - Internet Network ...

      Be Kind And Share :)

?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? Source: soluciones4web.com via Larry on Pinterest

      ?

Email marketing is a widely used method of advertising a specific product or service. Millions of these emails are transmitted almost hourly to various potential customers all over the globe. While many of these emails wind up being caught by a spam filter, there are many methods you can utilize to ensure you get the best coverage and response.

      1. eCommerce Enabled ? Most eCommerce platforms have an email marketing add-on built into its system. Any customer who purchases an item from your website could be put into an email list that will allow you to send coupons, discount codes, information and more automatically and without intervention from yourself.

      2. Newsletters ? If you are using a content management system such as Joomla or WordPress, you can add a component to control a newsletter subscription method. Visitors could sign up for this newsletter and your CMS will create a master list of emails for you to contact through its system. If you don?t have the means to add a newsletter plug-in to your website, a simple .php form with contact information can do the same thing. It just takes more work on your behalf to create your email list.

      3. Opt-in Email Lists ? For excellent results, purchasing an email list composed of users who have opted in to specific content could be greatly beneficial. These users are already waiting for incoming email from his or her chosen niche and you could reach a wide range of people using these. Since they have opted in to receive emails from solicitors, there is a better chance of quality contact from someone interested in your content.

      4. Legalities ? Make sure you are following the most common criteria for mass email sending. Too many unsolicited emails produced by your IP address could get you blacklisted in organizations like the CBL, which will block your emails on a grand scale. Even if the emails are legitimate, blacklists can be severely detrimental to your business. Legitimate practices will help you steer clear of these blacklisting sites.

      5. Purpose ? Mass email marketing with a proven legitimate purpose can help keep filters from flagging your content. Giving individuals a way to opt-out of your content can go a long way to establishing trust. Be mindful of the content you are using in your email.

Email marketing is a cost effective way to keep your target audience interested in what you have to offer. Many companies will send mass emails on a daily basis to subscribers and for most of them, it doesn?t cost a dime. However, for those who pay for a certain amount of bandwidth per month, it could become a worthwhile expense.

Tibetan protests against Chinese rule in new phase

BEIJING (AP) ? Two dozen Tibetans have set themselves on fire in western China this month in a dramatic acceleration of the protests against authoritarian Chinese rule, activist groups say.

The surge in self-immolations, along with an increase in large demonstrations, mark a new phase in the Tibetan protests.

At least 86 people have set themselves on fire since the immolations began in 2009. In a change in recent months, most self-immolators now are lay people ? some of them acting together ? rather than Buddhist monks and nuns who can be more closely watched by the authorities because they live in tightly monitored monasteries.

The protests have also sought to avoid direct attacks on authorities and government property, acts used in past to label them as riots or terrorism, providing an excuse for greater oppression. Despite the altered approach, observers see little short-term possibility of Beijing changing its repressive policies.

"I think the problem will just escalate over time. The government shows no inclination to respond positively to recommendations for reform from the outside or Tibetans," said Michael Davis, a law professor and expert on Tibet at the University of Hong Kong.

In the latest immolation, 24-year-old Kalsang Kyab doused himself with kerosene and set himself alight Tuesday in front of local government offices in Kyangtsa in Aba prefecture, a hotbed of unrest, according to London-based Free Tibet and other groups.

An Aba official said Wednesday he was aware of the immolations but refused to give any details before hanging up.

On Monday, about 1,000 students at a Tsolho Medical Institute staged a bold protest about 900 kilometers (550 miles) to the north in Hainan prefecture in Qinghai province. Riot police fired shots into the air and released tear gas and beat the students with rifle butts, sending 20 students to the hospital, some with serious injuries, Free Tibet reported. Four students were detained as of Tuesday, according to U.S.-funded broadcaster Radio Free Asia.

Tibetan and surrounding ethnically Tibetan regions have been closed off to most outsiders, and firsthand information from the area is extremely difficult to obtain. Authorities have not commented on the protest. Calls to the medical school rang unanswered Wednesday.

Driving the students to protest was a booklet distributed by authorities that derided the Tibetan language as irrelevant, attacked the exiled Tibetan leader the Dalai Lama, and condemned the immolation protests by Tibetans as "acts of stupidity."

The booklet is the latest in a series of perceived slights and intrusive measures by Chinese authorities that have left Tibetans feeling that the culture, language and Buddhist religion that are at the core of their identity are under threat. The feelings have also driven the immolations.

The combination of immolations and large-scale protests is posing a new challenge for security forces, which have been stationed in large numbers in Tibetan areas in recent years.

The surge in self-immolations represents an awareness of the impact they are having among the Tibetan community and internationally, said Robbie Barnett, a Tibet expert at New York's Columbia University. That would likely inspire further protests, increasing the numbers of Tibetans willing to take their lives for the sake of their community, he said.

Most self-immolators have doused themselves with gasoline and set themselves alight after shouting slogans calling for Tibetan independence and blessings for the Dalai Lama, who fled to India in 1959 as Chinese troops ? a decade after they occupied the region ? were crushing an anti-government uprising.

Though protests have flared periodically over the decades, tensions boiled over in 2008, when deadly rioting broke out in the capital, Lhasa, and sparked an uprising across large swaths of ethnically Tibetan areas. Since then, security ? already extremely tight ? has been smothering.

The immolations have galvanized many Tibetans, who see them as selfless acts of sacrifice, making it hard for authorities to denounce the immolators. Similarly, protests by students are hard to demonize since they are typically non-violent and centered on issues such as language rights that are guaranteed under the Chinese Constitution.

While local authorities have cracked down hard following the self-immolations and other protests, authorities in Beijing have said relatively little other than to issue routine denunciations of the Dalai Lama and his followers. That indicates they are uncertain how to respond in a way that would bolster their authority and prevent the acts of defiance snow-balling into a full-blown protest movement, Barnett said.

"This suggests that the Tibetans have found a way of at least getting under the skin of the authorities," he said.

Findings support safety of whooping cough vaccine for older adults

ScienceDaily (Nov. 29, 2012) ? A new study of the safety of the tetanus-diphtheria-acellular pertussis (Tdap) vaccine supports the recommendation that those 65 and older get the vaccine to protect themselves and others, particularly young babies, from pertussis. Published online in Clinical Infectious Diseases, the findings come as reported U.S. cases of the bacterial infection, also known as whopping cough, are at the highest level since the 1950s.

An extremely contagious respiratory illness, pertussis puts infants at greatest risk for severe complications, including death. More than half of infants younger than 1 year old who get pertussis are hospitalized, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and 1 or 2 in 100 hospitalized infants die. Immunity is difficult to maintain in the community because infants cannot be vaccinated until they are 2 months old. As a result, they may be at risk, especially from family members and care givers who have the disease.

In their study, Hung Fu Tseng, PhD, MPH, and his team at Kaiser Permanente Southern California found that adverse events following Tdap vaccination in seniors were mostly minor. "Although there is a small increased risk of injection site reaction following Tdap vaccination in the elderly, it is no more common than that following the traditional tetanus and diphtheria (Td) vaccine," Dr. Tseng said.

The researchers' study included 119,573 seniors who received the Tdap vaccine and the same number of people who received the traditional Td vaccine. Safety data were collected from seven health maintenance organizations across the U.S. The risk for adverse events following vaccination was comparable among both groups.

The authors hope the findings will allay any fears among older adults about the safety of the Tdap vaccine and prompt more doctors to urge across-the-board immunization, which is crucial in the wake of recent pertussis outbreaks, such as those in Minnesota, Washington state, Wisconsin, and elsewhere. Current recommendations call for infants older than 2 months, children, teens, adults (including pregnant women, parents, and health care workers), and those over 65 to be vaccinated.

"Pertussis immunization is important, particularly since one of the most common sources of pertussis in infants is their relatives, including their grandparents," Dr. Tseng said. "We suggest that clinicians follow CDC's recommendation and talk to older adult patients about vaccination against pertussis to protect themselves and their family members."

Peanut butter plant closure angers New Mexico town

PORTALES, N.M. (AP) ? Farmers in a revered peanut-growing region along the New Mexico-Texas border should be celebrating one of the best harvests in recent memory.

Instead, millions of pounds of their prized sweet Valencia peanuts sit in barns at a peanut butter plant shuttered for two months amid a salmonella outbreak that sickened 41 people in 20 states.

Farmers are worried about getting paid for their peanuts, nearly a third the plant's 150 workers have been laid off, and residents wonder what toll an increasingly contentious showdown between the nation's largest organic peanut butter plant and federal regulators could ultimately have on the region's economy.

The tension boiled over when the Food and Drug Administration on Monday said it was suspending Sunland Inc.'s registration to operate because of repeated safety violations, meaning the plant will remain indefinitely shut down as the company appeals the decision. The company had planned to reopen some its operations this week after voluntarily recalling hundreds of products and closing its processing and peanut butter plants in late September and early October.

Many in this flat, dusty and solidly Republican farm town of about 20,000 denounce the FDA's tactics as unfair and unnecessarily heavy-handed ? and become defensive about the shutdown of the largest private employer in town.

"We had the best crop in years, and then these (expletives) came in and started this," said resident and local telecomm worker Boyd Evans.

For the first time ever, the FDA is using authority granted under a 2011 food safety law signed by President Barack Obama that allows the agency to shut food operations without a court hearing.

The FDA said inspectors found samples of salmonella in 28 different locations in the plant, in 13 nut butter samples and in one sample of raw peanuts. Inspectors found improper handling of the products, unclean equipment and uncovered trailers of peanuts outside the facility that were exposed to rain and birds. Inspectors also said employees did not have access to hand-washing sinks, and dirty hands had direct contact with ready-to-package peanuts.

The FDA has inspected the plant at least four times over the past five years, each time finding violations. Michael Taylor, the FDA's deputy commissioner for foods, said the agency's inspections after the outbreak found even worse problems than what had been seen there before.

The salmonella outbreak was traced to Trader Joe's peanut butter produced at the plant. Sunland produces products for a number of national grocery and retail chains, and New Mexico Peanut Growers Association President Wayne Baker says the industry generates about $60 million in the region each year.

Valencias are a variety of peanuts that come almost exclusively from eastern New Mexico. Because of their sweet flavor, they are favored for organic and natural peanut butter products because they require few additives.

The peanut is celebrated every year at the town's annual Peanut Valley Festival, and most residents have stories related to peanuts, whether growing up on a peanut farm, helping to haul them to harvest or knowing peanut workers or farmers.

"Peanuts is, like, everything here," said local shopkeeper Brittany Mignard.

The plant's retail store remains open, although its shelves are bare of its own products. The few items remaining include peanut brittle made in Lubbock, Texas. The shelves are stocked with jelly, but no peanut butter.

Baker, who is also a Sunland board member, said the company had never been notified of any past violations. And the company has vehemently denied FDA allegations that it knowingly shipped any potentially tainted products.

Plant officials said they were blindsided by the FDA's suspension on Monday. Just hours before it was announced, the plant had announced plans to start shelling the bumper crop on Tuesday. Plant officials said they had notified the FDA last week of their plans to reopen the processing operations while waiting for approval to resume making peanut butter.

"The FDA is overreaching its power and putting out information that isn't true," Baker said. "We don't understand what is going on. We don't think we are guilty."

FDA officials wouldn't comment on his allegations, saying it was an ongoing investigation.

Food safety expert and Cornell University professor Bob Gravani said given the number of salmonella outbreaks in recent years, he believes the FDA is being heavily scrutinized about why they are not using their rules more frequently or more aggressively.

Putting aside the "he-said, she-said" between the FDA and the company, he said, "I would say suspension is warranted in this case."

This is not the first major outbreak since the FDA gained authority to pull a facility's registration in the 2011 food safety law. An outbreak of listeria in cantaloupe in 2011 is linked to at least 30 deaths and investigators found similar conditions at Jensen Farms in Colorado. Unlike Sunland, however, Jensen Farms did not attempt to restart operations after the recall and FDA investigation. The company later filed for bankruptcy.

Baker said officials have been trying for the past two months to cooperate with the FDA to get the plant reopened.

"That hasn't worked," he said. "But we are not going to give up. We are going to fight this. We have got no choice."

He said officials have begun calling the state's senators and congressman and talking with other agricultural groups about getting help in Washington with an appeal of the FDA action. No hearing has yet been scheduled.

Coburn said about 30 percent of the plant's workers were laid off Monday.

Although peanuts can be stored for a while, Coburn and Baker acknowledged that time is of the essence for getting to work on what Coburn said were "many, many millions" of pounds harvested from this year's crop.

Farmers, Baker acknowledged, are worried about getting paid. But he said Sunland has committed to paying them for their crops.

Under a worst-case scenario, he said, Sunland could sell the peanuts to other producers.

An Education in Classlessness | Economics reference cell ...

Economics : Of all the people in the city of New York who should be reluctant to charge someone else with elitism, the city's richest man has to be on the top of the list. But irony has never been one of the mayor's strong suits, so there he was?the other day?with a verbal assault on Bill Perkins for, of all things, having the temerity of being a vocal critic of charters, despite having gone to the "tony" Collegiate School for his own high school education.

Here's the NY Post's (natch) account: "The Post's Dave Seifman forward some pretty choice quotes from Mayor Bloomberg going off on state Sen. Bill Perkins, a major opponent of charter schools, on his weekly WOR radio show this morning. Bloomberg jabs at the pol for attending "elite private schools" and says he's been "violently" against choice for parents."

Now's not the right time to interject a tired pot and kettle analogy, but it does take a certain amount of chutzpah to attack Perkins when the mayor probably hadn't set foot inside a public school-his kids went elsewhere obviously-until he was elected mayor. And the same goes for Chancellor Klein who, along with Bloomberg, brought absolutely zero knowledge of public education to the job?when he was elevated to his supreme commander post. And this from a man who spends all of his weekends in Bermuda!

But what's even more egregious in our view is the mayor's failure to see with any clarity what?the charter phenomenon says about his own educational effort-a point that we have already made before. Here's the Post again: "Bill Perkins is a guy who went to elite private schools, and he represents a district where most people can?t afford elite private schools, and charter schools are their opportunity to get their kids a great education," said Bloomberg. "I think the numbers are something - there?s 10,000 places this year - more places for charter schools, and there?s something like 50 or 60,000 applicants for the 10,000 places."

Now, after eight years of so-called reform-along with reams of flack touting miraculous advance-we have stampedes in poor neighborhoods to flee the public school system as fast as possible. The Post's Seifman continues to spotlight the mayor's views in a follow up story: "Bloomberg argued that charter schools promote competition, which is one reason public schools in the city are improving. "Competition is great for everybody, and it's one of those things we want to encourage, and Perkins has been violently against it, while the educators and the public and the parents want more of [it]," the mayor said."

If the Harlem clamor for choice is any indication, this kind of a competition can best be described in sports language as a blowout-and as an indictment of the failure of the overall?Bloomberg effort. Diane Ravitch's hearing testimony sheds light on the true nature of this far from healthy competition: "Some charters are as idealistic as the original vision, but many others now see themselves as competition for public schools. They want to take over public school space and replace public schools. They revel in stories about beating public schools, not helping them."

But as far as Bloomberg's observation that the charter competition is in some way aiding public school improvement, where's the evidence of that? Which brings us back to the point that we made last week: "So there is obviously a perception of failure at the grass roots level. Whether this is a reality or not-and studies indicate that the charter exploits are exaggerated in the aggregate-doesn't matter. And the clamoring for, "choice," is an indictment of the current system that the media did so much to tout when it was all about mayoral control."

So what's missing from all of this trumped up outrage, is a concomitant genuine outrage at the three card monte game that the Bloombergistas have played-with Rupert and Morticia acting as the audience shills-with a gullible public. It is time to bring in the forensic accountants, and Perkins and his state senate crew should hold follow up hearings on testing fraud, unmerited teacher and administrator bonuses, and a profligate expansion of an educational bureaucracy that has failed to deliver real success even with an 80% increase in its allocation.

But that might not even be necessary if what they think is going to happen next spring actually does-new school tests that expose the naked emperor's false positives. As the NY Post reports: "Criticized for having steadily dumbed down standardized tests -- and trumpeted phantom gains -- the state Education Department says students in grades 3 to 8 taking required math and English exams starting tomorrow won't pass as easily this year. "Students are going to have to know more and do more to demonstrate proficiency on the exams," said John King, senior deputy state education commissioner."

And it will be more difficult to teach to the test: "A rising number of pupils have passed in recent years as cut scores dipped so low that some kids could randomly guess enough right answers to squeak by, experts found. State Board of Regents Chancellor Merryl Tisch and Education Commissioner David Steiner "are committed to ending the annual debate about whether our state tests have become harder or easier," King told The Post. "Doing that will require us to ensure that our tests become both less predictable and more comprehensive in terms of the number of items they test."

But, once the test fraud is exposed will it finally become clear that, as far as NYC's master of the house is concerned, "there's not much there?" Here's the Post's observation: "The sliding standards weren't revealed when Mayor Bloomberg touted dramatic spikes in state scores as a triumph of his stewardship. But the lid was blown off when federal officials found reading and math scores for New York students had remained flat on a national benchmark exam since 2007, while their scores on the state tests skyrocketed over the same period."

Education Secretary Arne Duncan, cited in Sol Stern's upcoming City Journal article, makes this telling point: ?We have to stop lying to children,? education secretary Arne Duncan said recently at a meeting of the National Governors Association (NGA).?We have to look them in the eye and tell them the truth at every stage of their educational trajectory.?

If Mike Bloomberg really wants to advance the interests of NYC school kids, he can begin by laying off the glass house?ad hominen attacks on Bill Perkins; and he can follow Duncan's advice by starting to?tell the truth-to those with an actual stake in public education-about how all of his extra funding and top down control of the educational bureaucracy has yielded a truly lackluster result. Don't expect this anytime soon, because mea culpas are conspicuously absent in the Bloomberg personality profile.

Ex-UA interim basketball coach Russ Pennell is moving up to the WAC

Russ Pennell hugs Arizona point guard Nic Wise after the Wildcats defeated Cleveland State to advance to the 2009 Sweet 16. Photo by David Wallace/The Arizona Republic

Russ Pennell, fondly remembered at Arizona for leading the Wildcats to the Sweet 16 after coach Lute Olson retired before the 2008-09 season, is moving back to Division I.

Pennell is in his fourth year as the head coach at Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, and the Antelopes will be joining a reconfigured WAC for the 2013-14 season, the league announced Tuesday.

Grand Canyon is a currently a Division II program.

?The big thing is it?s going to be an incredible challenge that we look forward to and we embrace,? Pennell told the Arizona Republic, our Gannett partner.

?For my staff and I, we didn?t wake up this morning and go, ?Oh, my gosh, we?re going Division I.? We?ve been working on this for three years, laying the foundation. Now that it?s here, we can take the next step. But it?s definitely a crowning day.?

With Grand Canyon becoming a Division I basketball program, perhaps we?ll see the Antelopes eventually be a regular on Arizona?s schedule, as is NAU. The Lumberjacks play at UA on Wednesday night.

Conference realignment has shredded the WAC, which is disbanding for football after this season but continuing in other sports. The WAC turned to Grand Canyon when it needed a quick replacement for new member Denver, which announced it was leaving for the Summit League.

The Antelopes will join Cal State-Bakersfield, Idaho, New Mexico State, Seattle and Utah Valley in the WAC. Grand Canyon won?t be immediately eligible for the NCAA tournament as it completes its transition to the higher division.

And, as noted by baseballtucson.com, Grand Canyon?s move to the WAC means an opportunity for Tucson kids to play Division I baseball. The Antelopes have four local players on their roster: sophomore outfielder Nick Chapman, sophomore catcher Lucas Leifeld and freshman pitcher Tommy Harding (all from Sabino), and freshman pitcher Hunter Miller from Salpointe Catholic.

Several other former high school athletes from the Tucson area compete at Grand Canyon as well.

      Casino Royale - Bond 50 Box Set Blu-ray Review | AVForums.com ...

When Casino Royale was first released onto Blu-ray it was cut down in the US and the UK, but not in the same places. We lost a line of dialogue whilst they lost some violence. Very happily, both territories now have the full version as part of this 50th Anniversary James Bond box set.

Ahh, Mr. Blu-ray Bond ... I've been expecting you.

It is tempting to think that Daniel Craig's debut in the tux has already rocketed way beyond the confines of the franchise that kick-started it all, leaving the Connerys, the Moores, the Daltons and especially the Brosnans way behind. That still leaves out the odd Lazenby, though, doesn't it? Well, we'll come to that later. So, for those of you who have got the stamina, let?s indulge ourselves once again and explore the many reasons why Casino Royale was able to put James Bond back at the top of the Action Hero League, propelling the home-grown...

      [Read the complete movie review]

      Picture

I?ve reviewed this transfer of Casino Royale twice before. Apart from being uncut, there is no difference between those editions in terms of video quality and this essential entry in the lavish Bond 50 box set. So, what I said back then still stands.

Casino Royale is presented here on a BD-50 in full 1080p AVC MPEG4 video, and it looks absolutely stunning. With a pristine source print that the transfer keeps very filmic, the 2.40:1 image is alive with colour and vibrancy. As a reproduction of the film I saw at the flicks five times in a row, this is extremely accurate.
Colours, which if I'm honest, do look artificially bright and vivid, are incredibly rich and strong. From the lush scenery of the Bahamas - splendidly green foliage, scintillating azure seas - to the amazing primaries that throb with life - the yellow of the fuel truck, the reds of the Body Exhibition and the blues of Craig's eyes - the picture is constantly spreading the spectrum across the screen with a palette that is robust, deep and entrancing. Flesh-tones, though, can come over as little too flushed and orange, although, personally, I didn't find this a distraction. Scenes set around the picturesque clinic retreat in which Bond recuperates look utterly magnificent, with wide panoramic views, a deep sense of distance and marvellous colours.
Blacks are sumptuously deep and incredibly strong. Night-time scenes and the interiors of the dinner-jacket-rife Casino Royale bathe the image in shadow, allowing the lit portions and the colours of the screen to shine through with a visual coherence that is especially embracing. This heavily contrasted framing is well-maintained with some moments, such as Bond striding towards the Casino effectively cutting the image in two - darkness at the bottom, light and colour filtering through the upper half - with the dappered-up Bond cutting through the black foundation into an, otherwise, glittering image. The infamous torture scene is, perhaps, the best example of how deep and dramatic the black level can be - with only a few shafts of sickly light and Bond's battered torso and Le Chiffre's glowering countenance to break up the gloom. One sequence, however, is too dark. The fight on the stairwell with African bad-boy Obanno (Isaac De Bankole) loses a lot of detail in the impenetrable shadow of the tussle, which is a little disappointing.
Besides that sequence, detail is thoroughly excellent throughout most of the film. Depth of field is impressive and provides that all-important three-dimensionality, with the collapsing house in Venice, the crowded plaza and the cobbled streets of Montenegro looking phenomenal. But the building site chase and the gun-blazing destruction in and around the embassy offer tremendous levels of finite visual information packed into a busy, fast-moving frame. Close-up detail is also extremely good. At the flicks I remarked - somewhat anally, I admit - that you could see the tiny spots of Daniel Craig's shaving rash and that this would be a good thing to reveal the clarity of the disc transfer. Well, worry not, zit-fans, for they are still perfectly rendered here, too. In fact, every crag, crevice, cut and graze that Bond has are lovingly captured in glorious hi-definition.
On the digital front I did, sadly, detect some slight motion-drag and aliasing, and there was a very small degree of noise in the image from time to time. Though, and let me stress this, none of these factors conspired to take much away from what is, essentially, a truly warm, engrossing and spectacularly colourful and vivid picture that is a joy to watch again and again. And again.

      Picture score : 9

      Sound

Previously, we have heard Casino Royale in PCM, but now the blistering soundtrack has been encoded with DTS-HD MA 5.1, to go alongside all the other titles in the box set. I was quite enamoured with the soundmix when I first discussed it. I see no reason to deviate from the opinions I put forward back then.

Perhaps even better than the image transfer, folks, this lossless track really lifts the experience right up into a different zone altogether. To put it quite simply, this is has always been a favourite track of mine, and is certainly one of the best produced soundtracks around.

Casino Royalehas a nigh-on faultless audio mix that seems to go further in terms of detail and power than the mix I heard at any of the cinemas I saw the film at originally. For a start, David Arnold's score and even Chris Cornell's song have been bestowed much more in the way of surround activity, really bringing the music into play in a much more dynamic and surprising manner by pumping out lots of little incidental notes and sundry elements from the rears that I, for one, had never heard before. Just listen out for the echoing guitar effect that warbles its way around your ears during the moment when Bond gets off the plane in Nassau.
The bass levels are astonishingly deep and full-on, rooting every impact, big or small - from rampaging fuel trucks and whooshing jet engines to the clanging of a steel door and the rolling thuds of a spinning Aston Martin - with strength and a realistic reverb thrown at you with enough aggression to press the ribs. The high ends are well held and scintillatingly sharp and clear, and the mid-range is constantly warm and enveloping, leading to a track that is thoroughly and comprehensively detailed.
Steerage is impeccable, with bullets, cars, explosions and voices all channelled perfectly around the set-up. Panning is always seamless and the film features many sweeps back to front, front to back and from every which way but loose around the speakers. There is activity taking place around you at almost all times and it is delivered with nothing short of total realism and a full-flowing naturalistic sound that is the realm of only the most intelligently thought-out and produced mixes. Even the quietest scenes have perfectly integrated ambience to keep you immersed in the film. For all the bombast that rocks the room, the dialogue is never swamped or submerged and delivery is always first class, from the eerie accent of Vesper to the gloriously growly, smoke-filled voice of Giancarlo Giannini's Mathis, and from the starched-yet-warm commands of M to the strong and layered tones of Bond, himself.
But, for a second, let's just revel in the juicy stuff that the soundmix provides. Listen out for Mollaka's gunshots during the crane-sequence - we hear the rounds firing front and centre and hear the wonderfully metallic snap of the ejected cases issuing out from almost behind us. The fantastic moment when Bond drags Mollaka down machine-gun alley in the embassy has glass, bullets, wood-splinters and ricochets engulfing the room with pin-sharp precision and devastating directionality. The terrific bit when the police vehicle is swept up in the draught-blast of the plane's engine and the earlier deluge in the airport when the sprinkler system goes off. The sound of the big air bags supporting the floating house hissing when raked by bullets and the awesome sinking of the building, itself, with masonry tumbling, stairs and landings giving way and, of course, the incessant gunfire and fist, knee and foot impacts. Listen out for the lift as it plunges into the water and the resultant surge around the speakers when Bond dives under. And then there's the crystal clear presentation of every gunshot in the film that literally poke through the air with a crunching thump. Extremely well-designed, folks, and enormous fun to become immersed within.

      Sound score : 9

      Extras

We have had the original release, which was extremely disappointing when it came to supplements. And then we had the Deluxe Edition that came out a couple of years later and, really speaking, we now have the best of both worlds with this release, although it does, rather perplexingly, miss out the Bond Girls Are Forever documentary and several featurettes.

So, what have we got then?

      Audio Commentary with the crew.

There are four Deleted Scenes that are really just scene extensions.

The Road to Casino Royale (26.34 mins) takes a gander at how Fleming?s original novel has eventually found its way to the screen in a proper adaptation that is part of the celebrated canon.

Ian Fleming's Incredible Creation (21.14 mins) Pretty much the obvious overview of the character and his creator that most of us would expect. Nothing new here.

James Bond in the Bahamas (24.16 mins) This is quite a decent look at why the franchise has returned to the exotic location time and time again. Interesting to see how things have changed over the years, and to hear from inhabitants who have contributed to the films.

Ian Fleming: Secret Road to Paradise (24.28 mins) Yet more discussion about the character of James Bond came to be, told from the viewpoint and recollections of the people that new Fleming.

Death in Venice (27.24 mins) is a great chronicle of how the film?s elaborate Venetian action finale was filmed.

Becoming Bond (26.16 mins) fills in the background on Daniel Craig's transformation from respectable jobbing actor, perpetually bobbing about just beneath the radar of fame, to media-lashed superstar-in-the-making. Featuring interviews with Craig, Martin Campbell and Judi Dench, this is a pretty decent look at how the franchise took a gamble in its new re-imagining. Great to see Craig making his debut before the media by zooming up the Thames under escort from the Royal Marines. Shame about that lifejacket, though. As he, himself, remarks, he'd have come across better if he'd worn arm-bands. A good little scene-setter, folks, that even makes reference to the anti-Craig canvassing that took place.

James Bond: For Real (23.32 mins) is a look at how this production aimed for a grittier feel in it depiction of the action and the stuntwork - less outrageous and more authentic hands-on stuff, without the use of CG to cheat. The major set-pieces are covered, such as the awesome building site chase and the Miami Airport sequence - the truck was originally supposed to plough on through the belly of the plane - the record-breaking rolling of the Aston Martin and the collapsing of the house in Venice. All good stuff, if a little technical at times.

And finally, there is the Chris Cornell video for ?You Know My Name? (4.06 mins)

Overall, this is a very decent selection, but it feels somewhat dry and repetitive compared to some of the older releases.

      Extras score : 8

      Verdict

Well, in case you haven't already guessed - I love Casino Royale and rate it very highly, even when held up against the best of Connery and Moore. And Lazenby?s OHMSS, which remains my all-time favourite Bond film. For me, it just did about everything right, from the catchy black and white prologue and the wildly different title sequence, through the decidedly low-key mission and traumatic denouement that sees the full birth of 007. It is violent, realistic, bereft of the cheese that mired the franchise and focuses on a Bond who is resilient rather then refined, brutal rather than urbane. Like I said about Christian Bale's portrayal of Batman so long ago now, this is a hero that could exist and should exist. The daftness is gone, the edge is back. Throughout three films he has been consistently strong, even making the lame elements of QoS all the more palatable, and completely coming to dominate the character with the triumphant Skyfall.

      Long live Daniel Craig's Bond.

This debut marks him out as possibly the best Bond ? though only time will really tell - and certainly the biggest hook to ensure the longevity of the series into this new age of techno-terrorism and ever-more shady politics. Despite a couple of very minor flaws, Casino Royale is fast, cool and aggressive, making 007 rock like never before, proving quite conclusively that nobody does it better.
On Blu-ray, the film positively shines and the sound, now DTS-HD MA, is absolutely amazing. We lose some extras with the edition in this box set, but it seems churlish to complain when we now the film fully uncut.

With Casino Royale, James Bond returned with a vengeance and stamped his authority on the action genre.

      Overall score : 9

Although the study of anti ? growing older techniques is not only vanity ( space ) it?s produced over 1000?s of years in to a complex research of molecular biology, botany and even philosophical and also subconscious study.
During the early Egypt dynasties, olive leaves had been endorsed as an contra ? growing older remedy. A Vedic way of life devoted to exercise and dieting as an approach with quitting the particular aging process, and so on the particular American indian sub-continent, along with Ayurvedic drugs focused on this young-looking effects of Yoga, deep breathing as well as, once more, herbal treatments plus anti- getting older creams as well as poultices. Which research proceeds these days, together with the ?next significant thing? currently being happily proclaimed simply by big manufacturers. These kinds of ?magic? components incorporate everything from ginger in order to the level of caffeine, nonetheless is there just about any foundation over these says any particular one item will turn back the trouble for your skin that is unfortunately a portion of lifestyle on its own?

Yet even today, modern inherited genes is looking to help un-lock the important thing in order to longer life, and are generally paying attention their research upon people who are above A century aged in an attempt to find out what can make their bodies extra up against the mobile corrosion connected with growing old. Immigration Clearinghouse - HOW MEXICAN DRUG CARTELS ...

      by MARY CHASTAIN

      24 Nov 2012

As the Mexican drug cartels obtain more control in Mexico, they are able to seep across the border and grab hold of the drug market in the United States. Cartels are able to easily transport their product across America, and to some this is proof the war on drugs is failing.

?We pretend that the cartels don?t have an infrastructure in the U.S.,? Fulton Armstrong, and ex-CIA officer, told The Washington Post. ?But you don?t do a $20 billion a year business . . . with ad-hoc, part-time volunteers. You use an established infrastructure to support the markets. How come we?re not attacking that infrastructure??

The Sinaloa cartel, headed by Joaquin ?El Chapo? Guzman, one of the most wanted men in the world, dominates the drug market. They are also the same cartel that received over 2,000 guns from the ATF in Operation Fast & Furious. The drugs are shipped to Los Angeles where cartels hide the drugs in trucks with other common goods and ship them to their destinations via major highways. Popular hubs include Los Angeles, Chicago, and Atlanta, but the DEA estimates there are 1,286 cities on the distribution grid.

Pseudoephedrine laws have lead to a huge drop in American made methamphetamine, but it?s also given rise to Mexican-made meth. This is a top drug in major cities like Oklahoma City. Two times this summer the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics (OBN) made drug busts related to Mexican meth. Chicago DEA Agent Jack Riley said the Sinaloa cartel?s meth is more pure and ?that gives users a faster and longer-lasting high.?

Agencies manage to put dope on the table, but it hardly puts a dent in the infrastructure. The drug cartels send in new lieutenants to replace old ones. High up officials are still just pegs on the totem pole and can be easily replaced. Unless law enforcement gets to the heart of the infrastructure, the king (the supplier) will remain the king, and drugs will flow freely.

Almost three years of rehabilitation now learning how to walk and adapt to chronic nagging pain caused by the broken ribs and long surgically installed screws in my pelvis. I suffer from horrific back pain, rib pain, neuropathy in my feet, ankles and deep aching pain in my right hip where the screws were surgically drilled into my pelvis. ?Pain is something I write about to help others and share why training equine in a natural way without pain and resistance is the very best way.

Update on my health ? Stress and Pain Don?t Mix?

This week has been stressful as both my husband and myself ?had sworn depositions taken with a court reporter in regards to the personal injury lawsuit that has been on-going since the car accident in 2010. ?A very emotional, stressful and horrible experience as insurance corporations are in the business to make money not pay medical bills etc. ?We have learned the hard way that insurance refuses to pay the medical bills after a life threatening and catastrophic car accident even when their driver runs a stop sign and gets a ticket for running the stop sign.?

Additionally I suffered a major step back from Physical Therapy last week I have been enduring more pain and suffering than I normally do. ?The three large long screws surgically inserted into my pelvis do not agree with the wet and cold of the Pacific Northwest making fall and winter the most difficult time of the year for me. ? Wearing long johns and snow pants until we are back into the 60?s and 70?s for those of you living in the Pacific Northwest you understand this is weeks out of the year not months. ?I have been in Physical Therapy trying to get my body to become healthy and beat the back spasms and hip pain for almost three years now, no doubt GOD is working on me to trust him and have patience again.

Please remember to trust Jesus Christ each and every day and make him your Lord & Savior as he is truly the light of our most fragile world.

No doubt GOD has a plan and perhaps one day he will provide a way for me to live in a warmer and drier place for now this is indeed where GOD has planted me with my husband, Mammoth donkey, mini donkey, beloved horse, three dogs and two indoor manx mix kitty cats.

Please remember ?If you have never experienced abuse, or severe pain you will have a hard time having empathy for another human or animal? ?Please look for natural training methods without pain and suffering for your horse, donkey or mule. ?I am a home study student of Parelli?horsemanship, Parelli works for Horses, Donkeys and Mules. :)
